Here is our 2022 homeschooling game plan- Addie is in 5th grade and Bella is in 2nd grade this year. Their MTH (My Tech High) classes are:

Addie: Math, Language Arts, Science, Entrepreneurship, & Home Economics

Bella: Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Exploring Technology, & P.E.

Even though the girls have slightly different classes, we usually do all education and activities together. So really it’s like they both have all the classes. (Math is done on their individual grade level however)

Class Curriculums

Math:

For math each year I purchase a grade level workbook for each girl. We typically do 2 lessons per week out of the workbook. In addition to the workbooks the girls also use the app Reading Eggs & Math Seeds. The app does have a free 30 day trial, we have really loved it!

Language Arts:

For language arts we do a few different things. Luckily there are a lot of apps and workbooks out there that support language arts curriculum needs. When it comes to apps, we use the above mentioned Reading Eggs & Math Seeds, as well as Adventure Academy. We LOVE Adventure Academy!! It’s basically an online game where kids can play and interact with friends and go on quests to learn specific things. Adventure Academy covers all of the basic topics kids would have as part of their curriculum- Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, & Health. They’re learning while playing a game & having fun, always the best way to learn!

Both do a really good deal on their yearly subscription a couple times a year so we usually renew then and add the time to our current subscription. Watch for black Friday deals!

In addition to the apps, we have multiple workbooks to help the girls with their reading & writing skills.

We also purchase a lot of reading books through our Scholastic book club. If you know other homeschooling moms I highly recommend signing up for Scholastic books! You can create your own homeschool “class” and invite others to join. All orders placed together will earn points that can be then used for free books! These are the same book orders that public school teachers do- but as a homeschool parent you get the points from orders!

Science:

For science this year I found a couple of fantastic workbooks that we are using for our curriculum. The first one below includes 180 days of Science and covers a wide variety of science topics including: Space, Earth, Animals, Plants, Health, Geology, etc. The other workbooks have great information and activities we’ll include. We also watch YouTube videos that relate to what we’re learning about that week because sometimes a visual aid helps. And of course as mentioned previously, the Adventure Academy app also covers science.

Social Studies:

For social studies we decided to continue our box subscriptions from Little Passports that we had last year. We have been so impressed with them! We have a year subscription to both the US box and the World box. We continued to get them through the summer, so we have quite a few saved up and ready as we need them which means even when our subscriptions end we’ll have materials for a few more months. (below is a link to get their boxes on Amazon, however we subscribed through their website. Usually they have a really good deal around black Friday like most places)

We also still have a few boxes of our Mysteries in Time subscription. Unfortunately, they currently only have a total of 12 boxes. We were so sad to learn that! Otherwise we would still be subscribed. We LOVE these boxes and the girls have learned so much! Luckily we got a little behind last year and didn’t get them all opened each month so we have a few to use for this school year. Hopefully they come out with more boxes soon! We ordered these from Amazon vs their website since they are based in the UK and I didn’t want to deal with payment issues etc. I just put them on the monthly subscription with Amazon.

Any subscription box I’ve seen usually has a discount for your first month so you can try one out and see how you like them, then if you do it’s totally worth doing the 6 month or 1 year subscription as it’s the best savings. Most will have a good deal around black Friday, but if you get on their email lists they’ll send promotional emails and let you know when one is happening.

Entrepreneurship:

For this class we use the curriculum that I created last year. You can purchase it on the shop page. It can be repeated each year and walks them through starting and running 4 different businesses throughout the school year then has them evaluate them and see which was the most successful.

Exploring Technology:

This class is a fun open type class where we purchase interesting and fun gadgets the girls are interested in and let them learn and explore on their own with them. So there’s no set curriculum per say, but more self learning and hands on with different technology gadgets.

These are the gadgets we’ve purchased (and a couple we plan to purchase soon) for them to explore with this year-

P.E.:

For P.E. this year we are going through a third party and have both girls enrolled in a local gymnastics class. They go once a week and it’s a great outlet for them physically and socially.

Home Economics:

This is probably the easiest class for me personally because it’s so much of what our day to day life includes. Last year I posted a video on my YouTube channel of a binder I put together from Pinterest ideas. It’s nothing official or for sale, but hopefully it will give you some ideas.

Each week my kids each have a night they are in charge of making dinner for the family. On the girls nights to cook we try to combine the recipe ideas with things they learned that week. For example, when we opened the Little Passports world box and learned about China we focused on the girls making Chinese recipes. When we open one of the states boxes we’ll search Pinterest for some recipe ideas from that state. It’s a great way to incorporate more learning on the same theme.

We’ve also been going through a bunch of my cookbooks (I love cookbooks) and trying out new recipes. You know how you just get into a rut of making the same 10-15 recipes all the time? Well we decided that for the month of September we wouldn’t make any recipe that we’ve made before. So far so good with the exception of the occasional pizza night.

General:

In addition to the specific curriculum books and apps we also got a couple of general workbooks that cover a good variety of all of the subjects.

I am all about things that work for more than one purpose. If you’re wanting things that cover multiple subjects I highly recommend comprehensive books like these below. The subscription boxes each cover so many subjects- not just social studies, but history, art, language arts, etc. And the Adventure Academy app covers quite a few subjects too. When a book, subscription box, or app does more than one subject it’s less to buy, less time to learn, and less to store in the house!
