This Counts as School Too… If You Make It One
May 4, 2026There’s a common misconception about homeschooling.
That if you’re not sitting at a table…
With books open…
Following a schedule…
You must not be doing school.
But Here’s the Reality
Sometimes…
School looks like this.
A plane ride.
Excitement.
Adventure ahead.
Learning Starts Before You Even Arrive
Before we even touched down in Alaska, we were already learning.
We talked about:
- geography
- weather
- distance and travel time
- how planes work
- what to expect when we arrived
And that’s just the beginning.
Education Beyond Four Walls
This trip wasn’t a break from learning.
It was learning.
Because once we got there, we experienced:
- new environments
- new cultures
- new ways of life
Things you can’t fully understand from a textbook.
The Freedom to Say Yes
This is one of the greatest gifts of homeschooling.
Freedom.
Freedom to:
- travel when others can’t
- learn through experiences
- step outside of routine
Freedom to say yes to opportunities.
What Kids Really Remember
Years from now…
They won’t remember every worksheet.
But they will remember:
- the trip
- the experience
- the time spent together
It’s Not Either/Or
It’s not:
- school or life
It’s:
- school through life
Final Thought
Homeschooling doesn’t limit your child’s education.
It expands it.
Because Learning Isn’t a Place
It’s something you take with you.
Wherever you go.
