We were on a family trip to Alaska, enjoying the sights, the experience, and just being together.

And like most families, we decided to stop by a local chocolate shop.

At first, it felt like a simple, fun treat.

But then something unexpected happened.

Learning Straight from the Source

The chocolatier took the time to walk us through the entire chocolate-making process.

Not just a quick explanation but a real, hands-on, start-to-finish experience.

We learned about:

• Cocoa pods and what they look like before processing
• The nibs inside and how they’re used
• Different ways cocoa can be used beyond chocolate
• The time and care it takes (days) to create quality chocolate

This wasn’t something you read in a book.

This was something you could see, touch, and understand. (and TASTE!!)

Tasting the World

One of the most fun parts?

The samples.

They had chocolates made from cocoa beans sourced from all over the world each with its own flavor, texture, and uniqueness.

And then there were the creative combinations…

Including chocolate with potato chips.

(Which, surprisingly… was really good. 😄)

Why Experiences Like This Matter

What started as a quick stop turned into a full learning experience.

And in that one visit, my daughters learned:

• Science (how chocolate is made)
• Geography (where cocoa beans come from)
• Culture (how different regions influence flavor)
• Business (how products are created and sold)

All while having fun.

All while being engaged.

All while making memories.

And while buying some to bring home!
