Ham, Potatoe & Pea Soup
December 24, 2010So I was at the store the other day- and as kids were fighting getting back into the car, and I’m loading groceries, I close the trunk on my van. NORMALLY I leave the cart close to my car-
( I know some think it’s lazy- but as a mom I actually appreciate when there’s a cart left when I pull in, and secondly I don’t want to leave all my kids alone in the car anymore than I have to, and ok maybe a little bit because it’s quicker and easier and I’m lazy sometimes)
But that day I paused, and started taking my cart to the holding spot for them in the parking lot. Part of me was glad to get away from the bickering, and part of me for a split second thought if someone were to drive off with my kids today they’d be doing me a favor and I’m sure would return them in 5 minutes or less!
I love my kids- but as moms we all have “those days”- burnout, frustrated, tired, feeling unappreciated, etc. For me, date night really helps a LOT! Being able to dress up, not worried about what kids will get on my clothes. Wear make-up, actually taking the time to do it nice instead of a quick job to make myself presentable and actually focus on making myself pretty! Have my hair down, no one is going to be around that will pull on it, and I wont be busy running in circles cleaning and taking care of kids making it too hot to have down. I love going out to dinner for date night- it’s finally a meal that I get to eat warm! (since mine usually gets cold by the time I take care of everyone elses demands at dinner time) It’s a meal I don’t have to worry about someone eatting off of, sneezing on, or touching my food. And I get to eat it uninterrupted!
I guess there’s also the part about reconnecting with my husband and having “us” time….. that’s nice too!
