Outnumbered… and Out of Snacks
November 4, 2026One of the most common questions we get from families planning their school year is this: should we buy a curriculum bundle, or build our own mix using individual subject courses?
Both paths can work beautifully. The right answer depends on your family’s situation, your child’s needs, and how much planning you want to handle yourself.
What Are Curriculum Bundles?
Our curriculum bundles are grade-specific collections available in three tiers: Starter, Discovery, and Premium. Each tier is designed for a single grade level and builds on the last with more comprehensive content and resources.
Bundles are a strong fit if you:
- Want a structured, organized foundation for the school year
- Prefer to shop once and have a clear plan in place
- Are newer to homeschooling and want less decision-making upfront
- Are homeschooling multiple children and need predictable, repeatable structure
A bundle also removes the mental load of scope and sequence planning. You know what your child is learning and when.
A Note on ESA and Scholarship Funding
Bundle eligibility varies by state ESA program. Some programs approve our bundles directly. Others approve only specific individual products. If you are purchasing with ESA or scholarship funds, we recommend checking your state’s approved product list before purchasing a bundle. Our individual Education Guides are approved across all of our participating states and are always a safe starting point.
What Are Individual Subject Courses?
Our individual subject courses are standalone programs designed to go deep on a specific topic. These work especially well as:
- A supplement alongside a bundle or another curriculum
- A focused solution for a subject where your child needs more support or enrichment
- An elective that follows your child’s interests
- A replacement for one subject in a homeschool that is already mostly planned
Popular individual courses include our Gardening Curriculum, Cooking Basics, Tax Basics, the Kid Entrepreneur Course, Raising Superheroes character education, and our Sports Curriculum. These are designed to teach real-world skills through engaging, hands-on content.
Our K-12 Education Guides also fall into this category. Each guide covers all core subjects for one grade level and is approved across all of our participating ESA states. Many families start with an Education Guide as their core and layer in individual subject courses around it.
Which Approach Is Right for You?
If you want a fully planned, structured school year with everything in one place, start with a bundle at your child’s grade level and choose the tier that fits your family’s depth and budget.
If you want flexibility, if you already have curriculum you love, or if you are using ESA funds and want to stay on the safe side of state approval rules, individual Education Guides and subject courses give you full control over what you purchase.
Many families end up combining both: a bundle as the foundation with one or two individual courses added for subjects their child loves or struggles with.
