Middle School Homeschool: Grades 6 Through 8 Overview
October 6, 2026We decided it was time.
Time to start teaching her how to drive
And for a split second…
I pictured handing her the keys to a full-size car 😅
Then immediately thought:
“Yeah… let’s not do that”
So we started smaller
A golf cart
- Not 2,000 pounds
- Not overwhelming
- Not high stakes
Just enough
Enough to learn:
- how to steer
- how to brake
- how to pay attention
- how to understand the “rules of the road”
In a safe environment
And honestly?
It’s been the best way to start
Because she’s not:
- nervous
- overwhelmed
- afraid to try
She’s learning
And gaining confidence at the same time
It reminded me of when I was a kid
I started driving at age 11
In a stick shift 😅
We had a 2-mile drive to the bus stop from our ranch
So naturally…
We drove ourselves
That poor car got a few dents thanks to me 😂
Different times for sure
But the lesson is the same
You don’t throw kids into the deep end
You ease them in
And homeschooling?
It works the same way
You don’t have to:
- teach everything at once
- get it perfect
- start big
You start small
- Build confidence
- Teach real-life skills
- Create a safe space to learn and mess up
Final Thought
Whether it’s driving…
Or life
Start small
