Counter to Wall

In our current house (which HOPEFULLY we’re not renting for much longer) the kitchen is super tiny- and for someone that loves to cook such as myself it’s been painful to work in.  It’s a good thing I’m a good organizer!  I’m always looking for new ways to organize things, so when it was time to rearrange the kitchen counters I got an awesome idea!

Problem 1: with limited counter space, having a bowl of fresh fruit on the counter had to be in a corner since that was the only place it would fit.  This meant the fruit was often rotting before we would eat it because no one saw it daily and we forgot it was there.  This was also a problem because we want to eat more fruits and veggies for better health.

Problem 2: my pantry which was also limited on room since it had to hold many items that would normally be in kitchen cabinets, had all the ziploc bags, tinfoil, etc. on a shelf that was constantly messy looking and the boxes they were in were always falling off.

SOLUTION:  I got a organizer that works for both over the door- or can be mounted on the wall.  On the door it works as a 2 part hanging unit.  On the wall it is custom designed a little different (see picture).  Instead of a fabric/plastic organizer like my shoe organizers are, this one is metal with shelves about 4″ deep.  So I mounted it to the wall above my table area (basically unused wall space) and now it holds all my paper plates, cups, ziploc bags, tinfoil and such items on the top shelves, and our fruits and veggies on the bottom 3 shelves.

Resolved: This freed up both counter space in the kitchen AND shelf space in the pantry!

My next project is to add some hooks under the middle shelf that will hold the banana’s better.  But for now this works great!
